Jones completed his fifth season as Hawaii head coach in 2003...The team finished with a 9-5 overall record, a national ranking and thrilling triple-overtime win over Houston in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, the Rainbows’ third bowl appearance under Jones...Took over as head coach of the Rainbows in December, 1998...Turned around a program that went 0-12 in 1998 to 9-4 in 1999, including winning the Oahu Bowl title...Tied an NCAA record for greatest one-year turnaround under a first-year coach...Earned 1999 Coach of the Year honors from The Sporting News, CNN/SI and the Western Athletic Conference...Came to Hawaii after serving one season as the interim head coach of the San Diego Chargers...Also served as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 1994-1996...Led the Falcons to the playoffs in 1995 in only his second season as head coach...Played quarterback for the Falcons from 1977 to 1981...Was a Kodak All-American quarterback at Portland State while leading the Vikings to consecutive 8-3 records.
